Beckham v. Philips, 1 Jefferson's Memorandum Books 279 (1772),[1] involved a case in which Thomas Jefferson replaced George Wythe.

A caveat of G. W.'s which he desired me to finish for him 1768. June. 18. Same day took N. S. Pd. Walthoe 5/9. — Aug. 10. inclosd. Sum. to sher. Orange — 1769 June 15. wrote to E. P. that I hd. obtd. ord. conc. — 1771. Nov. 5. recd. by E. P. 50/ — never charged till now because in those cases of G. W.'s I menat to charge nothing which was not voluntarily offd.[3]
